The Ambulance Provident Fund was formed in 1981 at the Annual Ambulance Officers Convention by a group of officers who were concerned for the financial security of their families in the case of their unexpected death.

The fund is designed to bridge the financial gap that can occur when the main income earner or their spouse/partner suddenly dies. Often bank accounts and other assets are frozen and regular income may cease, making it difficult to meet expenses and family requirements until superannuation and life assurance entitlements are finalised.
